What a fabulously entertaining story about a boy who has to save Earth from annihilation. There's plenty of action, funny moments, and terrifying situations. The world is highly detailed and the writing verging on poetic at times. The characters get under your skin: you'll love them or hate them. Even the villains, however, have moments where you'll sympathize with them. Billy is a reluctant hero, but accepts his role and thinks of the perfect solution to destroying his foe. (You'll have to read the story to see if he succeeds.) Sal is a vivacious and funny alien. She quite often steal the show. And Typhon is a dastardly evil villain. My biggest complaint is the cover of a boy asleep on the ground doesn't do the story justice. It looks more like a thriller or mystery, and not the sci-fi adventure that it is. This is a highly enjoyable story that leaves me wanting to read book two. There's piles of action and adventure. This is certainly a quick read, aimed at young adults but certainly enjoyable by older readers too.

Interesting plot and characters. I would like to read book 2 in the series and see what comes of Billy, Sal and others.
Billy Twigg and the Storm of Shadows (The Billy Twigg Saga, #1) by Ninian Carter is a pretty clever book. An easy to get lost in fantasy more for teens and young adults focused around a 13 yr old boy. Lots of intrigue, adventure, and action. Kept my interest. Won this from the Scout program.
