Lux Opposition Special Collector Edition A Lux Novel Jennifer L Armentrout Books

Actual rating 4.5 stars

I was excited to see how this series was going to end and dived into ‘Opposition’ eager for an explosive conclusion… but I ended up not really enjoy it as much as the rest of the series. Even though there is another book due for release in novel due for release on Dec 1st this year (‘Oblivion’ the beginning told from Daemon’s point of view – a ‘Midnight Sun’ of the Lux series. I wonder if it is going to pick up where ‘Shadows’ left off or use that novella as a foreword?) ‘Opposition’ wrapped up Katy and Daemon nicely.

There was too much lovey-dovey-ness, it became so repetitive and at inappropriate times. Daemon was starting to get on my nerves. And Katy to some extent... when did they get so stereotypical? I think it was the rehashing of intimate moments in the series – I was overlooking it in previous novels, but by this, the 5th book, I was hoping Jennifer L Armentrout would have come up with more imaginative ways to create intimacy.

Loved the epic battle and obstacles overcome with the Arum. But it’s not made too easy and there are some plot twists that had me ‘What tha!?’ My favorite is still the Las Vegas battle scene from ‘Origin.’ We see all aliens (and hybrids) using their powers with reckless abandon. Although I can say I wanted more face-offs, the pacing and action scenes have been so engaging.

Some of the insights from this conclusion have also got me wanting to read ‘Obsession,’ a stand-alone from an Arum’s POV… colour me intrigued. I wonder how different the narrative will be from Daemon? Will it shed any more light on the history between the Luxen and the Arum, or is it merely the story of one alien connecting with yet another unsuspecting human?

The ending felt kind of weak. It was great how everything was tied up in a pretty white bow, but I wanted more bang for my buck. I mean, hello, the world was invaded by aliens and we just go back to the way things were before? There should be some sort of remaining tension or disorientation...

On the whole another enjoyable installment, I’m a little glad the series has wrapped up, the bright and shiny feeling I had when beginning had faded. Still highly recommend to those who love drama, action and aliens in a small town high school setting. Still has aspects that remind me of ‘Twilight’ and ‘Roswell,’ and Katy and Daemon will always have a special place in my heart.

Go alien glowy-ness!

Lux Opposition Special Collector Edition A Lux Novel Jennifer L Armentrout Books Reviews

MY BLOG shoshireads.weebly.com
MY REVIEW [...]
Okay, the hardest thing about finding a new series that you love is reaching the last book and having to say goodbye. The last books of series are always the toughest to read. On one hand you want to speed through the book to find out what happens, on the other hand you want to read the book incredibly slow and savor the series before it ends. You get submersed in the world of the book and you don't want to leave. I've read series that I have loved but when it came down to the last book, it just disappointed me because my expectations were so high from reading the other books in that series. That really wasn't the case when it came to the Lux series. After reading the first book, Obsidian, I fell in love with the series. And after that, book after book in the Lux series, I loved. Opposition was the PERFECT ending to an absolutely phenomenal series!

In my Origin review, I said that it was hard for me to distinguish between Katy's and Daemon's POVs. This was not the case in this book. I'm not sure why but it was so easy for me to tell whose mind I was in. I was happy about that because I love the Lux series so much and I don't want any negative things to say about the series.

When Katy and Archer went to the store to get items for Beth, I just had this weird feeling that something bad would happen. When I was reading this section of the book, I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for something to happen. And when it finally did, I had to just keep reading and reading. I was so eager to find out what was going to happen, I read this book so quickly.

At the beginning of the book, it was hard for me to tell if Daemon really was on the Luxen's side or not. REALLY hard to tell. When we found out that he and Dawson had been faking their emotions, I felt like a weight was lifted off of my shoulders. Soon after, I realized the reason they were able to separate from the invading Luxen was that they had someone that they loved so much, it was able to free them from being controlled. After that my heart broke in two. Dee wasn't faking.

I hated Sadi from the moment we first met her. When we found out that she was an Origin and knew that Dawson and Daemon had been faking all along, I really hated her. I loved the scene when Katy attacked Sadi. You go girl!

I was biting my nails when Dee came and Katy had to fight her. I truly didn't know what would happen and that really terrified me.

I was shocked when Daemon and Katy learned that because of the Prometheus serum, one could die without killing the other. And I thought, why would Jennifer do that unless one of them dies? So I was basically a nervous wreck from that point on. When Daemon got injured and Kat was thinking about how much she loved him, I burst into tears. It was so upsetting! You really have to read the book to find out what I mean because it's hard to explain.

When Archer, Dee, Daemon, Dawson, and Kat went back to Petersburg, I really didn't want Kat to go, in fear of what happened to her mom. When Kat finds out that her mom had been assimilated, my heart broke for her.

At the end of the series, lots of characters died. Some were enemies and some were friends. But Daemon and Kat got their happy ending. So did Dawson and Beth, and Archer and Dee. Sadly, Luc didn't and we don't know exactly what happened to Nadia, but I am assuming she died.

I may have gotten some tears on the book when Dawson and Beth name their baby Ash and in the extended parts on Jennifer's website, when Daemon and Kat name their baby Adam.

It also shocked me that some Arum like Lore and Hunter weren't necessarily bad. Although lots of Arum still are. Lotho definitely freaked me out. I was intrigued with the idea of an Arum and a human. I read Obsession to learn more about Hunter and Serena. And wow. It really was a shocker.

The cover of Opposition annoys me because it doesn't match with the other books. But we will be getting Opposition in a new cover that does actually match the rest of the series. We will also be getting Shadows in paperback. These will come out in November.
Well, the end has finally arrived. No big surprises. So much happened to our friends by the time the 5th and final installment arrived. It was hard to shock me with much. I know this is a Romance, but the Author gave us decent supporting characters. That, and a bit of comedy named Daemon Black turned it up a notch.
I enjoyed 15 year old Luc (love that boy) schooling the adults in the story. Also, meeting Hunter, Sin, and their leader 💋 lol. Pretty funny stuff. It was cool which characters came together when truly necessary. All I can say about that without spoilers.
There was a whole lot of lovin' for Daemon and Katy. Suddenly they are Energizer Bunnies. Awww young love.
The only thing I felt repeated a bit much was describing each kiss, and there were so many kisses. Is this paid by the word? Kidding!!! Archer was a great addition. I wanted to give him a hug. Daemon made this story 5 stars. He was hysterical every time he opened his mouth. Loved his character SO much. I love how much he fought for his kitten. I still think he reminded me of Damon Salvatore played by Ian Somerhalder in The Vampire Diaries with Elena. I know Daemon Black is much taller, ripped, and curly hair. They both have great eyes. Anyway.......
This story was filled with Drama, Comedy, Adventure, Action, Good Aliens, Bad Aliens, and of course.... Love.

For an entertaining story that's not too deep, I do recommend this series.
Peace
