Again, this dazzling duo hits it right on the mark!! Lila, a literary agent at Novel Idea Literary Agency, along with her fellow agents is organizing a celebrity chef event for the town's Taste of the Town event. Books and Cooks are at the top of their agenda, and a true gala event is planned. However, the temperaments of the cooks and the unbridled rivalry over the books quickly takes center stage. First a death-by-cooking-spray exploding stove takes out one of the cooks and then a not-so-nice (read total witch!) meets her untimely end. Lila and Sean are up to their rump roasts in clues, personalities and downright nastiness as they bring the culprit to justice.

Lila's best friend, Makayla, has a mystery of her own, as a "secret admirer" makes his feelings known. Also, in true literary agent style, there is a writing contest for the Books and Cooks short award, that brings a great surprise to one of the townspeople. AND, there is a very sweet cliff-hanger that has me itching for the next installment.

One word of warning, however! Be sure you have your favorite stash of munchies handy, as the glorious descriptions of food and meals planned are amazing! My mouth watered throughout the book, and I have gone on my personal recipe search to try to make some of these dishes for myself. I'd weigh 500 pounds if I lived in Inspiration Valley, but would enjoy every minute of it.

This book grabbed me from the beginning. The authors have an amazing way with words, terrific plot lines and that
way of having the villain be believable, but still give you that "Oh my!! I didn't see that one coming" feeling when all is revealed.

Get this book, grab up your cocoa and cat, cuddle up and be prepared to be transported to a great place that you would, also, love to visit. I promise you, you will not be disappointed.
Book three in the Novel Idea Series, finds literary agent, Lila, planning a cookbook festival in her town of Inspiration Valley, North Carolina. She and her other co-workers have their hands busy negotiating all the flamboyant famous chef's personalities. Friendly and sweet on the TV screen and restaurant floor, doesn't seem to be translating into even 'civil' at this festival. When one of the chef's gets blow up in a kitchen explosion, the trick becomes finding the murderer while keeping everything going as smoothly as possible. It helps that Lila's new love is a policeman for the town.

There are so many things that make this series fun and involved in literary clips. Shops and sandwiches are named after books and characters. Even the best ever romantic build up to a new dating couple is filled with poetry and music titles. Great timing, as I finished this book on. Valentine's Day. Then for a fun cozy, the themes of true and caring love are mixed in with evil obsessive love in great contrasting ways. Love of family traditions, parents, children and partners are cleverly woven around the motives that caused someone to bump off a couple of the Toast Of The Town's star chefs. Thoroughly enjoying this series!
“Books, Cooks, and Crooks” is the third book in the “A Novel Idea Mystery” series by Lucy Arlington (pen name for co-authors Ellery Adams and Sylvia May) set in Inspiration Valley, North Carolina. Novel Idea literary agent Lila Wilkins has been assigned to organized a “Taste of the Town Festival” chef event, along with her co-workers. The event will star celebrity chefs who will promote their latest cookbooks along with cooking demonstrations. Lila and her team find the chefs very egotistical and demanding. Then one of the chefs is brutally murdered and then later another murder is committed. So, as usual, Lila investigates the murder. The book is full of mystery and romance.

Overall, I like this Novel Idea series. It was fast paced and well written. I continue to lover Lila’s relationship with her son Trey, mother Althea, boyfriend police officer Sean, and her best friend Makayla, owner and barista of “Expresso Yourself” coffee café. The theme centers around the love of books and frequently has quotes from well-known books.

I highly recommend this tantalizing cozy mystery, especially for those who like mysteries full of delicious food. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, “Played by the Book.”
One more hit in the A Novel Idea Mystery series. This was hard to put down. Lots of people had reason to kill the second victim, but no one had a reason to kill the first one. In the end, you learn how that could have happened. The world of Celebrity Chefs and Cookbook writers, is explored in this story, with many twists and turns. Honestly did not know until the last few minutes who the killer was and why. Some of the famous TV Cooking Celebrities in this mystery did not live up to the public's expectations, when they show up in person for the Chef Event. A look inside the publicity event to encourage more cooking related book sales. While all this is turning the town upside down, Lila has her son with her for a short time and enjoys that he has grown and matured after attending college. And with everyone so busy, Sean and Lila progress to a next stage in their relationship. All through the story there is a sweet, secret admirer of Lila's best friend. Makayla, She learns who the secret admirer is in a very public way. Continue to enjoy the name dropping of famous authors and their famous quotes. Looking forward to the next book and wondering what everyone will be involved in as Lila continues to work as a literary agent and learn from her mother's predictions, her son's growth and her new life with Sean.
